Aikikai Malta

Welcome to
Aikikai Malta

A place to learn traditional, effective Aikido

About Us

Aikikai Malta offers our students the opportunity to learn traditional Aikido in an environment that fosters mutual respect and self improvement through training – we aim to teach and preserve the unique traditions that Aikido provides to us all.

We welcome anyone who wants to discover Aikido as a martial art – whether you are a prospective student or an experienced Aikidoka, feel free to pay us a visit – whether to observe, ask questions … or practice!

Club History

Formerly known as the Aikido Yamato Dojo (founded in 2006) – in 2018 we became Aikikai Malta after assessment and authorisation by the Aikikai Foundation in Japan, the only club in Malta to receive this recognition to date.

In July 2024, we received full technical recognition from the Aikikai Foundation, an important achievement for the club that places Aikikai Malta on an equal footing with other clubs around the world.

The club is led by Kevin Taksha Bonanno, 4th Dan (Dojo-Cho) and Claude Calleja, 3rd Dan (Senpai).

Seminars

Aikikai Malta regularly receives visiting Aikidoka from around the globe – we strive to enrich the Aikido experience here in Malta and create an exchange of Aikido knowledge, friendship and community.

Over the years we have been fortunate to host a wide variety of visiting instructors who all enrich our understanding of the art.

We will post details here on upcoming events when they are scheduled – for details on previous seminars, please click on the button below.

The dojo is located in Hamrun, a convenient location that can be accessed easily from most areas of Malta. The training hall is part of the San Gorg Preca College complex, shown opposite.
